WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?

Tea has a particularly close relationship to Chinese culture. Arts, literature, philosophy and even ethics are blended into tea activity.  Drinking tea not only enters the daily life, but also embodies the wisdom of human civilization. With no doubt, the study of tea in China has very rich content and is going beyond “a cup of tea”. This course is ideal for those who wish to learn and discover Chinese teas from a cultural and philosophical perspective.  You will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese tea, especially valuable if you are a potential tea master or want to advance your appreciation of tea.

-   3 x 1.5 hours webinar sessions (a group not more than 10 participants)

CONDITIONS TO OBTAIN A CERTIFICATE

-       Successful completion of an essay in four to six pages

COURSE CONTENT

Session 1: After tea was born

We will take an overview of the historical development, customs & traditions and health benefits of Chinese tea.

Session 2: The Perfect Cup of Tea

We will appreciate from teaware to paintings, poems and various arts related with tea to unfold the authentic spirit of Chinese tea culture. By sharing the words of Chinese tea wisdom, let’s experience the culture of Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism.

Session 3: Lu Yu and The Classic of Tea (Cha Jing)

Lu Yu is respected as the Sage of Tea for his contribution to Chinese tea culture. He is best known for his monumental book The Classic of Tea, the first definitive work on cultivating, making and drinking tea. We will discuss the major concepts in his book and how these concepts relate to contemporary tea drinking.
